L.L.Bean-Tickled Pink

Okay, so my close friends and family know that 2010 has NOT gotten off to a great start in our household. But I think I just found something today that can add some serious improvement to the Spring forecast. Okay, to be honest, I didn't find it. It found me.
The super cute preppy-lady over at Tickled Pink and Green left a comment after yesterday's post. That alone is enough for me to give her a shout out. Like I always do when someone new leaves a comment, I immediately do a complete creep on their blog and then send y'all the link so you can share in the fun. Only today, I want to steal her latest post. In it's entirety.
Remember last week when I showed you the cute new Canvas line from Lands End and mentioned that I'd keep you posted on L.L.Bean's comeback? Well, they didn't turn their tartans trendy, but, it seems they've done one step better. More like one hundred steps better for those of us who live in the land of preppy-ness.
And Mrs. Pink and Green has done us all a tremendous service by blogging about the fabulous finds here. Below are two things (you'll have to go to Tickled Pink and Green to see more) I think every one of us needs for spring. That should get you motivated to go read her post and then immediately head over to L.L.Bean with your credit cards in hand.

The Life...

I was meant to lead...

The life I'm leading today...

And besides, laundry and cleaning supplies would ruin a good outfit anyway.

Chardonnay

Since I have nothing clever to blog about today, I give you Chardonnay!

I'm not a huge fan of Chardonnay...at all...until I read this blog here. I much prefer a frosty cold glass of Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. Chardonnay reminds me of a lame reception with small plastic cups and bad hangovers. So, no I'm not converting my white wine of choice, but I am eager to give this blog here a try. Even though I have no baby in my back seat, I can still relate to her stories and humor. My sister and most all of my friends and neighbors do have kids so somewhere along the way I've read Sippy cups are NOT for Chardonnay. It's hilarious, and so is this blog. Mrs. Sippycup lives in Virginia (so obviously she's preppy and republican and snooty in a fantastic way) and vacations on Kiawah and Pawleys Island. HELLO...how can you not love this lady?

Have a fantastic weekend y'all!!!

Something to smile about

Image uploaded by SunshineKid via Kind over Matter

Today I thought I'd share some positive inspiration I found. You never know who needs it. I'm going to continue to share these (as I've found a really awesome site that collects them) as I find them. Everyone you meet has a past and something they're trying to recover from. Maybe this will help keep the focus on the future and God's plan. And that's surely something to smile about.

A Fraiche Idea

Yesterday I talked about one of my favorite stores, West Elm, and today I'm here to introduce you to another of my favorite Richmond shopping destinations. Fraiche is an incredible (meaning my taste, clearly) home goods and design store. Located "on the avenue's" at Libbie and Grove. Sorry, but if you don't know how to find "the shops on Libbie" then you probably shouldn't be shopping there anyway. The shop is always full of fresh ideas and products as well as a few staples, like my wedding pattern by Juliska (Berry and Thread in white with some blue accent plates FYI) and bedding by Serena & Lily (also welcome in my home FYI).

Images all courtesy of the Fraiche website
Y'all be sure to stop by if you're ever in the neighborhood for something fun and pretty or just in the neighborhood.

West Elm chair

I was in Richmond last weekend visiting my brother while he was home on R&R from Afghanistan. Cleverly my mom and I found a little time to squeeze a little girls shopping time in as well. One of my favorite stores to check out when I'm in town is West Elm. I get their catalog and it always leaves me wanting more, oh and a downtown loft with a furniture budget. It's a must see on every trip. Quite sadly, we stumbled upon a store closing sale. I was desperately heartbroken...until I saw an item I've had my eyes on, literally, for years. The white overlapping squares arm chair in white. And it was on sale!!!! And West Elm isn't closing entirely, just downsizing (my least favorite word of 2009 & 2010) and focusing on their Internet sales. So of course I snagged one of the chairs along with the white chair cushion shown below. Like all my other impulse buys, it doesn't have a home yet. But, I can worry about that later. It was a huge sale. I know this instant gratification won't lessen the heartache of my next shopping trip to Richmond. But, at least I'll have something cute to sit on while I'm feeling sad.

Don't worry, you can still buy one, or several, for yourself online here.
They make really cute desk chairs and fantastic dining or breakfast room chairs.

Mission Organization

While I find myself with a bit more free time these days, as does my husband, I am on a mission to get our house organized. I've narrowed down the areas that I'd really love to organize into categories. Rather than actually turning off my computer and cleaning house, I decided that it would be more fun to post about it! Hopefully this is more fun for you too!

I know it seems obvious that we should just put away the things we use and simply throw away or donate the things we don't. But, it's far more clever to transform the ordinary and utilitarian spaces in our homes into something fabulous. This way we can not only see clearly what we already have, but, we are actually "shopping" our own things. It makes boring things like doing laundry or putting away groceries or even fetching a new lightbulb seem like a fun experience.

Top Five areas I'd like to get organized:
  1. Closets
  2. Craft supplies

  3. Garage

  4. Cabinets & Pantry

  5. Laundry room/mudroom

Nothing helps with orgazniation like a good old fashion label. It keeps the guessing game and the "honey, I don't know where these go" at bay. Here are a few fun label options to help you get inspired!

The Container Store

These Chalkboard stickers are not removable. While you can't change their location, you can, however, erase and rewrite your label for each new use. Clever little labels!!

These printable labels are free from The Rubber Punkin where she suggests printing on card stock or photo paper and then laminating. So sweet to have inlcuded several blank sheets as well for your own specific clutter. I'm thinking the blank lime green and teal lables will be perfect for lip gloss and lightbulb bins.
Super cute!!!
What areas of your home do you need to get organized? What would you print on your blank labels to help you stay clutter free?

A brand new Canvas

Lands End has finally come up with something as clever as their ever-popular canvas tote.
A whole new line of Gap style clothing and accessories styled with a J.Crew flair has been debuted online and I dare you not to find something you like (with a price you'll love).

And they carry a men's line as well...

Now if only L.L.Bean could come up with a plaid shirt worthy of an US Weekly paparazzi stalk.

I'll let you know...

On another fun note, I found several fabulous new blogs yesterday and spent about 10 hours doing really in-depth and important research for you so that you can be entertained. One of which introduced me to this fantastic Canvas line. If I can remember who, I will promptly give them credit. Until then, I'll be sure to do a post soon the highlights of my new finds!!!

home office ideas

January alwyays brings organization and fresh beginnings to our lives and ultimately our homes. Whether you devote an entire room or just one wall, here are just a few images to get you inspired to make your home office space more aesthetically appealing and hopefully encourage you to file away your documents and paperwork properly. With tax season impending, this could prove most useful!
