date night {at home}

April 20, 2012

So does anyone else spend one too many friday nights at home in sweatpants?
Wether you have kids or not it's all too easy to slip into something comfy and go do your own thing.
Picture this:  Two kids upstairs in bed, me in front of Bravo onDemand and the iPad with Matthew in the next room on the computer eating a sandwhich.
Even with free babysitting sometimes it's just not practical to go on dates and I'm finding us slipping into a lame routine.
So I started a little project with my husband.
Date Night At Home
Little effort lots of conversation.  You know like when you're still dating and you try to make everything special.  Well that's what we're doing in our house now.
Our first attempt involved grocery store sushi on real china sitting at a table drinking champagne.
No sweatpants allowed.
It was awesome.
Didn't break the bank and totally felt like quality time.
Do y'all have any similar ideas or do the same thing?

And a comfy outfit choice that doesn't involve oversized boxers and stained t-shirt.

  1. Ummm ummm ummm this is genius, love. We are in the midst of finals so there are no date nights right now. Non existent. We have been dying to make sushi though so thanks for the inspiration. Look at your presentation. Go Julia!

  2. We don't do it weekly but definitely try at-home date nights. We should do it more often though, great idea!

  3. We def have date night at home! We don't have family that lives near us, so we don't have a lot of baby sitting options! Our date nights usually involve a bottle of wine, something on the grill and a movie from OnDemand. Love date nights at home!

  8. Three of our kids have lacrosse practice on Friday night so once everyone is home around 8:30 it is sweats, movie and pure laziness! Maybe, I should sport that cute outfit so the moms at practice do not think I live in my old sweats! Ha! Have a great date night-loved this post!

  13. Guilty here too! We exchange sitting with our neighbors some and have a few sitters on our list to call. Tomorrow we have a real date for the first time in a long time. It makes me feel better that even Pawleys Island Posh is hanging out in sweatpants. Hope you have a good weekend, Julia!
