Okay, so I'm here to enlist some help from my readers today.
Y'all clearly have amazing taste and style (or else why would you be here, right?) so let's help a girl out again.
First of all, I'd like to start by saying that the table skirt will not be permanent. I'm already on the search for a new more fabric to replace this aviary. It's just not working with the style of the room anymore.
You can also tell the wall leading up the stairs needs some attention as does the empty triangle wall in the corner of the room.
That being said, let's focus on the blank space above the tv today.
You can't even tell just how tall this space is from the picture, but we have really high ceilings and that space needs to be visually eaten up. Not to mention I hate that the tv gets such focus.
Option 1
A pair of abstract paintings
Option 2
two floating shelves
Option 3
A triplet of floating three-demensional objects such as sea urchins
VOTING TIME!
Love it all but I think my vote is the abstract art. Like how it balances out the tv. All cute though!!! Cant go wrong!
ReplyDeleteI like the shelves the best!
ReplyDeleteI like #1 or #3- I feel like I might be over the floating shelves- I thought of them myself and I feel like they might be a little "pottery Barn". This is such a pretty room!!
ReplyDeleteOh, the gold sea urchins!! I love the look, and it won't be too heavy above the TV... I do like the shelves as well, but my vote is definitely #3.
ReplyDeleteI like #3... or nothing at all and just leaving it how it is!
ReplyDeleteI am totally for the 3D pieces!!! Adds an unexpected touch!!
ReplyDeleteI love #1 and #3 but am leaning towards the abstract art, especially in black and white. Love how it looks! :)
ReplyDeletei like the shelves the best- i think they balance and blend rather than fight.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the urchins!
ReplyDeleteDefinetly the shelves! over such a big object like the tv...you need to be able to see a bit of wall on the back for balance. The pictures make it all a big squared pile of things and the round objects also cover it a bit too much...I have two shelves just like those over my TV and they work perfect! Good luck!Ana (from Home-styling)
ReplyDeleteArt! Love the wall color.
ReplyDeleteMy vote - option 3!
ReplyDeleteFloating Shelves for the win!
ReplyDelete#2 floating shelves.
ReplyDeleteLove the two floating shelves!
ReplyDeleteI used to be an interior designer so trust me. ;) Shelves all the way!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!

shelves definitely
ReplyDeleteI really like the sea urchins up there! was thinking in the same vein as something sunbursty but being a bit fresher - and I think you hit it on the head. only other thing i can imagine is maybe some mounted clear vases with some fresh greenery in them. bring some life in whenever possible?
ReplyDeletelooks GREAT.
what are you thinking for your stairwell? gallery wall? What about instead of a gallery wall you hung some art or frames/pics with some beautiful ribbon behind them, in a staight line down (so the ribbon and frames run vertically) in rows of three or so? i have a pic in mind in my head - may not convey via typing haha
You have amazing style, you should do a home tour! ; ) I like the shelves, I think they bring that wall and the tv together. Just curious, is the skirt fabric more of an aqua blue or baby blue? I looked at it for our living room but every pic I looked at look a different color.
ReplyDeleteI like the shelves the best. They don't compete, yet they take the focus away from the TV and provide nice balance. Just my two cents! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking #1 or #3. I like how funky the urchins are, but I think I like the look of #1 better...
ReplyDeleteI think the horizontal lines of the shelves help the wall feel not quite so tall... and I like that you can constantly change the objects as you get bored. Well, assuming you get bored and like to rearrange on a whim. I definitely do :-) Can't wait to see what you come up with!
ReplyDelete3!
ReplyDeleteThis is tough. They all look great but if I have to choose one - #3
ReplyDeleteI like the shelves the best : )
ReplyDeleteI like the shelves first, art 2nd, and the sea urchins 3rd.
ReplyDeleteI love the sea urchins the best... especially their circular contrast to the boxy shape of the TV and door frames. The shelves is my second choice! I know it will look great whatever you choose!
ReplyDeleteI would wall mount the TV and float the sea urchins above and below it!
ReplyDeleteI think I like the second one the best. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the sea urchins! I think you need a bit of 3d art up there since the tv isn't flat against the wall below it.

okay, i loved the shelves....which made me then wonder how it would look having the tv inside a built -in cabinet? hiding the side of the tv may make it less of a focal point? so shelves on top and cabinet on bottom....could even put mirrors on the inside panels of the cabinet doors!!
ReplyDelete# 3 for sure!
ReplyDeleteOption 3. The others seem like they might be distracting if you're actually trying to watch tv. I also think the art, and to a lesser degree the shelves, make the area look full of rectangles.
ReplyDeleteI like the abstract art...less dusting!
ReplyDeleteI vote for #3 - it definitely adds some interest, but won't be distracting when you're watching tv.
ReplyDelete#3! Perfect!
ReplyDeletethe shelves are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI like the shelves best too although without seeing the whole wall it's hard to say for sure. Indecisive! That's me. Maybe nothing if you decide to put something on the triangle wall. It's nice to have some space without anything on it. I hate how my tv is the focal point too!
ReplyDeleteShelves :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the shelves best:)
ReplyDeleteI vote for #3 - its a good balance for the TV. Love that you are watching Brad btw. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the art, but not over the TV....I'm thinking shelves. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Can't wait to see what you decide on.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Difficult decision, but I would vote for the 3D urchins. I don't mind the shelves either! Great choices! No wonder why you can't decide! :)
ReplyDelete#1 !!
ReplyDeleteI like the shelves!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the shelves
ReplyDeleteI like the floating shelves the best. Second choice would be the sea urchin/ 3 D art objects
ReplyDeleteWhat a hard decision! I really like them all but am drawn towards #2 and #3 but in the end I think I like the simplicity of #3 :) Can't wait to see what you choose!
ReplyDeleteI think I like the shelves.
ReplyDeleteOption 3 all the way. Close second is the shelves!
ReplyDeleteLove the shelves!!
ReplyDeleteI vote art! I've seen some neat gallery walls created around a TV that do a lot to disguise it and I think that would have the same effect. Shelves scare me above a TV - I'd be worried about something falling off and just breaking the darn thing.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely #3! You have so many straight lines around that area right now that something a little more organic would offer up a sense of whimsy and seem less boxy. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteWas browsing through the Ballard Designs catalog last night and saw THESE: http://www.ballarddesigns.com/starfish/235760?listIndex=0
ReplyDeleteCheck out the "More Views" section and see how they are hanging on the wall. Super cool!
DEFINITELY #3!!! If not that, then #2!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you decide on!!
Ummm first off, your stairway is gorgeous!!! For above the tv I'd go with option 3. Love that look! I especially like it since they're round and contrast with the straight edges of the tv and tv stand.
ReplyDeleteI say 3!
ReplyDeleteI'm going with the shelves!
ReplyDeleteThey are all terrific options, but my favorite is #2 the floating shelves!
ReplyDeleteMy vote would be the shelves. (I adore the fabrics on your chairs...)
ReplyDeleteOkay - I know this wasn't one of the three choices, but what about a white/ off white armoire? That way you can just close the doors on the TV, DVDs, etc, and have a clean look? Then the TV wouldn't be such a focus in the room. Beautiful room!!!
ReplyDeleteUgh -- the dreaded tv...we're about to deal with that too. I vote 3, bc I like the round with the straight edges of the tv.
