Dining Room Design & Crock-Pot Recipes

July 24, 2012

I've been working with a really sweet e-client and her mom on pulling together the daughter's new house.  She has three little boys and craves a calming retreat.  She likes coastal traditional and has lots of great existing pieces!  We actually went in a whole different direction, which is common, after viewing the first board.  But I thought y'all might like to see it.

And I thought I would share a horribly embarrassing picture my girls, Erin & Lindsay from our little dinner date on Sunday.  Please disregard the creepy eyes and the sloppy look my friends.  This is exactly why you shouldn't wait until 10:30 on a Sunday night to take a picture.  Or post said pictures before you've had any coffee.

Also for anyone who cares, I've bought a crock-pot.  I'm nervous and excited and hungry.
I spent an hour last night on pinterest looking up yummy recipes to try.  They all involve a pound of cheese so that's clearly the downside.
So please please please fill me in on your favorite crock-pot recipes!  I'm a newbie and I need all the help I can get!

  1. One of my our favorite crockpot recipes is from my Body Back fitness class cookbook. Two or three chicken breasts, 14 oz. of verde, one can (drained) pinto beans, one can corn (drained) and a medium onion (chopped). Put all into crockpot on low 6-8 hours. Serve over rice (we like the Vigo black bean and rice with this). It's filled with protein and very flavorful. :-)

  2. for a healthier crockpot dish, i just throw raw chicken breasts in there with a chopped up onion, chopped pepper, taco seasoning and a little bit of water. Low for 8 hours. Then you have chicken for tacos. you can also make applesauce in there by throwing in skinned apples, a little lemon juice, and a little water. cook low for 8 hours and then puree.

  4. Love the pink and green in the design board, and how stylish are you and your friends!!! I've got nothing for you when it comes to crockpot dishes. I've never done much with it so it still intimidates me.

  5. Love a girls night! I also loves me some crockpot recipes. I feel like someone else cooked dinner for me! Although it is not healthy in the least, this recipe is one of my favorites bc it is easy and tastes just like my mom's country steak.

4 cubed steaks (dust each side with salt and pepper)
    1/2 c water
    can of cream of mushroom
    packet dry onion soup mix

Low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours...heavenly southern dish served with rice!

  7. Chicken breasts with some BBQ sauce on top of it...cook 3-4 hrs on high or 7-8 on low...then use a fork to shred it. We put it on buns with a little extra BBQ sauce on top.

  11. W make chicken soft tacos weekly- 1 package skinless, boneless chix breasts, 1 15 oz can of salsa, 1 package of taco seasoning. Combine in crockpot, cook on high for 4-5 hours. Shred chicken with fork, and serve! We often do a little taco bar- tortillas, shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, shredded cheddar. My 5 and 3 yr olds LOVE this meal! Very easy and always a crowd pleaser.

  14. love the mood board! and you'll love having a crockpot, especially in the winter months when you can pop in a stew, have it smell the whole house, and have dinner ready by evening!

  15. MMMM Love the moodboards, love my crockpot. EASILY the two things I use it for most are
    1) BBQ Pork - unwrap a pork loin, drop it in; open your fav bbq sauce, pour it in; cook, on the corresponding setting, for however long you have left until you eat. Srsly that easy!
    2) White Lightning Chili
    1 lb ground turkey
    2 cans cannelloni beans
2 cans light red kidney beans
    2 jars of salsa,
a can of plain tomato sauce
    a can of water
and a bag of Chili-O thrown in at the last minute [optional].

Thats a huge mess - I'm going to make these pretty & legible, chica, I swear. Good luck with the crockpot - highlight the successes for us!

  16. Confession I got a crockpot for a wedding gift 5 years ago and have never used it. Not once, my mom did borrow it and use it for meatballs once if that counts. Please inspire me with the recipes you try. Your design board is amazing and I love the girls night out pic, especially your pink jeans!
