Fall Fashion: The Cape

September 28, 2012

The Cape:  Lust or Must?
Well there is absolutely no doubt that I love the look of a wool cape for fall.  It pretty much transforms you into a fashion superhero.  And I'm not the only one here, it's everywhere.  I won't even bother asking y'all if it's a bam or slam, because clearly it's a bam!
But is it a must have item long term?  I need to decide if it's worth splurging to make an investment in a quality piece I'll wear forever.  Something classic enough I won't regret it in two years?  Or is it only lust?  Something to look for at H&M that's trendy and cheap and will satisfy my need for this year only?  Will it be so out in a few years that I'll be thankful I didn't jump on board at all?

Thoughts?
Let's chat.
Do you have a cape?
Do you want one?
Do you think it's better left to super hero's and residents of NYC?

  2. I don't own one, I do want one. I'm trying to figure out where I would be sporting it though. It almost seems too glamorous for me - but the look is just so polished, I love it!

  5. SO and investment piece! When have you ever NOT liked a cape?! (other than middle school, when nothing was cool but umbro shorts and a t-shirt)

  6. I got this one from ASOS and plan on switching out the buttons. For $43, the price was definitely right!

  7. I got a plaid Kate Spade cape last yr at the outlet for a major steal I think it was like $150 down from $600 and I LOVE it. I get so many compliments when I wear it, that being said I don't think I would paid more than $150 because like you said I'm not sure how long they will be in style

  8. I'd say spend somewhere in the middle. I think it's a classic enough look to last a lot more than one season, but I wouldn't go blow my paycheck on one either!

  9. Capes forever!

I bought a basic black one from Miju. It was on sale for like $30 (down from something like $80) and I love it.

I say go for moderate to great quality. That way, you can wear them inside and outside and wash them. Hopefully they won't shrink, fade or unravel and you'll have a cape... forever!

    Capes forever!

  12. LUST. I wanted one when I was pregnant and they were nowhere to be found. Then the next winter, they were everywhere. Still love em.

  13. I love them sooo much! I don't know if I'd shell out a crazy amount for one though. My luck, they'd totally be out the next year.

  14. I've been a capeaholic for years, whether they're in style or not! Zara and Lauren by Ralph Lauren have always been good places to find one ...on that note, can you share the vendor for the second cape in the post? Just LOVE the detail at the neck!

  15. LOVE capes! They are so effortlessly chic. I'm looking to buy a camel one this year. I bought a green military style one last year from ASOS and I get complimented on it always.

That 3rd pic is killing me softly!! I love everything about that look.

  16. My mom has a wool cape from when she was in college. I definitely think that they are always in style. I actually have the second cape that you pictured. I bought it last year on sale and I love it. I think the bow -like collar is so chic.

  17. I love them! However, I'd say don't splurge but rather find a really cute one for less. Splurge on the boots instead ;)
