Okay ladies.  So my husband is the gifter of these directions but unfortunately it's his gig so I can't really help you out if you don't follow.  The good news is, you really can't mess it up!
Large Shrimp
Andouille Sausage
Red Pepper
Vidalia Onion
Fresh Parsley
Yellow Grits
Chicken Stock
Cream Cheese
Sweat onions, and peppers. Sear sausage and de-glaze the pan. Add garlic, chicken stock and allow to simmer. Finish sauce with heavy cream, salt, pepper and parsley. 

Cook grits according to package, substitute chicken stock for water. Stir softened cream cheese into grits and serve. 

Spoon shrimp gravy over grits and garnish with fresh grated Parmesan. 



  1. I love me some Shrimp and Grits. We make a really similar one. Love the idea of adding cream cheese and love that Matthew is such a gormeut cook!

  2. Can we please point out that you must, absolutely must, use real stone-ground grits? Can we acknowledge that the Quaker sawdust packets are not "real" grits?! I feel like everyone that tells me they hate grits has only tried the Quaker yucky stuff!

  5. Nothing like a good bowl of shrimp and grits ... the recipe rocks and we try to have it at least once a year. But it never tastes as good as when we have it in Charleston!! xo

  6. You posted this recipe at the perfect time! My southern husband asked if I would make shrimp and grits. Being a northerner, I barely even know what grits are (except that the hubs and kids like them for breakfast with sugar). I can't wait to try this recipe.

  10. Definitely a favorite dish of mine too. I really like the addition of sausage! (We usually do bacon) We're headed down to the Gulf next week for vacation and shrimp and grits is always one of our beach meals.
