work & weekend outfit idea

I am so ready to have some nicer weather back.
Not too hot, not too cold, lots of sunshiney sun.
So, back to important matters.
Is anyone else as obsessed with the striped tank dress as I am?
I'm seriously on the hunt.
Got any good sources to share?
I've been doing lots of day/night posts and mom outfits but I figured I owed you working girls a board.
Unless you're in a suit-only setting (sorry Elizabeth) you'll get lots more wear if you purchase pieces that can work seven days a week.  Am I right?
What's your favorite piece to dress up/down or wear to work?
And just for my girl Lindsey, I've include all the links!

Prayer

It's crazy true.
Just remember God is hearing your prayer today (and yesterday's too) and he is answering even when you think he isn't.
Even if just to say not now.
Just wait, what I have in store for you is coming.
Today I'm saying a prayer of gratefulness as Matthew prepares to start a new job tomorrow.
He has answered why he called us to move from our home and a town we loved almost a year ago.
He had bigger plans for our family (NO, I'm not pregnant, I meant bigger in spirit not size) and we believed that he knew what he was doing.
And now our life is changing in a way that's better than we could have imagined!

weekend fashion

Happy Saturday lovelies.
What's everyone up to this weekend?
We've been busy running errands and getting outside in between sprinkles.
I am so excited for our Farmer's Market to start back up and have my first outfit all ready to roll.
Do y'all do local produce?
What's your favorite thing to buy fresh?

hi sugarplum guest post

So I'm sharing some secrets on my celebrity crushes and slushes over on Cassie's blog today.
Go check it out here.

faux fiddle fig tree

Try saying that three times fast!
So I know everyone and their mom is on the fiddle fig tree train.
And I love it too, but I don't do real plants.
Not so much a won't but a can't.
Add in a toddler and I'm not sure this is even smart.
But just look at them, they're awesome!

But what if I told you this last one is faux???
It's from Alice Lane Home, one of my most favorite store blogs ever.  I would seriously consider planning a trip out to Utah just to hang out in the store for a day!
You can also buy them here.
i'm sold.

rainy day clothes

So this rain is a killin' me softly this week.
And I know I'm not the only one.
Anyone with kids, pets, or an aversion to being soggy is with me on this one.
Where did that sweet warm and sunny weather go?
Anyway, just thought y'all might like a little help picking something out that might help combat the rainy day blues.
What do you think?
Do you try to step it up and wear cute rain gear or do you just prefer to throw on an old t-shirt and patagonia jacket?
Not judging here.
I can't say I always do much beyond a good pair of leggings and a baseball hat on days like this.
But my sweet boy has therapy this morning and I like to put on a good face for things like that.

Life of a Mom

{One of these things is not like the other}

It seems I've got a tiny little interior stylist living in my house.
And I am one proud Momma!
Just take a look at these two pictures and let me know if you notice what I just noticed.
I'll give you a hint...
Mmm Hmmm...
Yup, that's right.
It seems Wells has decided the shell looks a bit better sitting up rather than laying down.
I have no idea when she tweaked this vignette but I must say at just 20 months, I'm impressed with her editing skills.
It's daring and unexpected yet subtle all at the same time.
Watch out for more Wells Design installments to come;
I have a feeling this won't be the last we see of her.

*****
And I'm sure y'all have already seen this on Facebook but it's seriously too funny not to re-share for those that missed it.
Can I get an AMEN!
A man came home from work and found his 3 children outside, still in their pyjamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn around garden, The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and no sign of the dog, walking in the door, he found ...an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, the throw rug was against one wall, In the front room the TV was on loudly with the cartoon channel, the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pyjamas, reading a novel... She looked up at him, smiled and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?...

''Yes," was his incredulous reply..
She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it.'

Decorating my mantle (one step at a time)

Is it really Tuesday again?
So that means it's Color My World Challenge day and this week is fabric week.
I seriously had about a billion things I wanted to do for this.
But I missed the boat on ordering any of the twenty or so pillows I found on etsy.
And my sewing machine is still broken so I was kind of at a loss for how to complete this challenge.
So I almost didn't do it.
And then I thought about y'all.
And I know not all of you can sew, or even own a sewing machine.
And you might not be able to justify an etsy bill to your husband.
So I figured I'd better think of something to post today that's quick and easy and cheap.
Then I remembered I had some snakeskin fabric left over from my coffee table project and some glass vases on the mantle that I hadn't quite figured out what to do with.
The wheels were a turnin'

Voila!

python vases baby!

Just to refresh your brains, here's the before with empty vases
I just love that by inserting the fabric into the cylinders instead of wrapping the outside it keeps the sparkle and shine in tact.  The effect is still very subtle and isn't the least bit permanent.  I have a feeling this could be a fun seasonal change as well.
Next time I'm going to try using a larger piece of fabric so that it fills the entire vase and not just the bottom half.
Thoughts?

Don't forget to check out what all the other participants are doing with fabric this week!

creating a playroom

So this isn't' a very exciting post for y'all but it certainly is for my girl Wells.
You see we transformed our extra large dining room into a bit of a multipurpose room after Tag was born in order for our house to function better with two babies to keep my eye on.  The first thing I did was turn our dining room table into a computer desk which created a little office area in half of the space and purposing the other half of the room as Wells' little play kitchen.
More on all that later.
Our giant china hutch, which you may remember from here, falls into Wells' zone and was looking a little out of place amongst her toys.  So I gave it up and redesigned it for kids.
Honestly, I kinda like it.
And Wells adores it.
At first I was worried about putting her things out of reach, but it's helped with the chaotic mess she creates and it makes her toys feel more special.  She likes to get a "ride pease mommy" and have me hold her up so she can choose a story or another "treashure" from the shelf.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who's let their house slowly get taken over by toys.

Here's what it was looking like before which I loved but this is just more practical for our life right now.

date night {at home}

So does anyone else spend one too many friday nights at home in sweatpants?
Wether you have kids or not it's all too easy to slip into something comfy and go do your own thing.
Picture this:  Two kids upstairs in bed, me in front of Bravo onDemand and the iPad with Matthew in the next room on the computer eating a sandwhich.
Even with free babysitting sometimes it's just not practical to go on dates and I'm finding us slipping into a lame routine.
So I started a little project with my husband.
Date Night At Home
Little effort lots of conversation.  You know like when you're still dating and you try to make everything special.  Well that's what we're doing in our house now.
Our first attempt involved grocery store sushi on real china sitting at a table drinking champagne.
No sweatpants allowed.
It was awesome.
Didn't break the bank and totally felt like quality time.
Do y'all have any similar ideas or do the same thing?

And a comfy outfit choice that doesn't involve oversized boxers and stained t-shirt.

April 19, 2012

coral shorts & sunless tanning

I know shorts are hard to wear this time of year when you're legs have been hidden from the sun for months.  But for some reason coral seems to look less striking against white legs and actually makes them look a little bit less pasty.  That paired with some L'Oreal sunless tanning lotion and I'm set to go.
What's your favorite sunless tanning lotion?
I'm always on the lookout for a good fake tan!
*oh and for those of you who stopped by early, sorry the links weren't up yet.  I had to make a quick starbucks run but didn't want the whole post to wait*

April 18, 2012

blue shorts two ways

Do y'all ever wear the same thing for brunch that you'd wear to happy hour?
I know I do.
I feel like "my look" is "my look" and I just adjust the shoes a bit to glam it up for nighttime.
I find that I do this a lot with shorts in the spring and summer because it's so hot.
What's your favorite thing to wear all day and night?
button shorts

Black modern art

So the Color My World challenge is back and this week we're working with paint.
Remember, I figured I have enough color in my living room so I thought I'd go with black.
I have really been in a painting groove lately so I ditched the colorful bird prints from etsy and created two pieces of abstract art.
I just popped them into the existing frames.
I think it makes the space more grown up.
What do you think?

chic little corner vignette

How lovely is this simple little corner.
It's got all my favorite elements
white chair, black and white striped rug, tulip table, orchid and touches of leopard.
It's making me rethink my crazy colorful chair idea.

how to wear bright blue denim (day & night)

Okay, so Matthew thinks it's lame to post this again since I just did this for the yellow jeans.
Same story different color.
But I promised my girl Cassie I would.
I actually debated just emailing her these boards but I figured some of y'all might like to see them too.
What do you think?

Stella & Dot giveaway

Okay, so I am so freaking excited to announce today's giveaway from Stella & Dot!
You know the crazy popular jewelry you see on everyone from celebrities to your best friend?
Yep, that's the one.
I tend to use their jewelry in my outfit boards for photography clients because the pieces are classic yet make a big impact.  I love when you can throw on a statement piece with a pair of jeans and white shirt and you're set to go!

Well one of my readers is a Stella & Dot sales rep and she asked me to choose my favorite piece for Spring to GIVE AWAY to one of you lovely readers.

yellow jeans (how to wear them)

So for someone who has yet to find the perfect colored jean I sure am obsessed.
I've been searching high and low and it seems I'm going to have to bite the bullet and order online.
Unfortunately that means size is up in the air.
Uggh
Any more sources y'all find, keep the emails coming!
I'm dying to know how you're wearing your colors and how you found a coveted pair.

Color My World Black (decor)

So it's week two of the color my world challenge and this week we're supposed to add some decor to our homes in the color of our choice.
Remember, I picked black.
Well, I flopped on my challenge.
It was Easter and I was busy.
I ran out of time to go shopping for black accessories and had no plan to make anything so I just shopped my storage closet.  I brought out several items that hadn't found a home yet in our new house.
I'm liking it.
I really love how grounded the black is making my space feel.
It's acting as an anchor, like I'd hoped.

 BEFORE:

 BEFORE

 AFTER
I especially love the black pottery barn frames and the black lamp shade.
These are changes I plan to keep longterm.
Not sure how that zebra pillow is working out.
What do y'all think?
Added any doses of a color to a space to see how it changed it?

Also, don't forget to check out the other participants

I'll be back next Tuesday with some badass painting with black!
