office design

Okay, so I've mentioned before that I turned our formal dining room into an office and playroom.
I gave y'all a sneak preview of my chairs yesterday and a little view of the skirted table with the yellow lamps a few weeks ago.  I'm still plugging away slowly but a finally a cohesive design is coming together in my head nicely.
I'm going bright and bold for sure.
Orange, pink, yellow, and turquoise to be exact.
Quite the contrast from my mostly neutral living room.
It's still a major work in progress but I'm loving the direction it's headed.
PS-can you tell I'm obsessed with that necklace, it's got me thinking I NEED to add some turquoise into the space for sure.
What do you think?
Am I CRAZY for putting all this color in one room?
A room that's adjacent to my living room which y'all know is not the same style.

I already had a remnant of the brown and white zebra fabric so I have no idea who makes it.  I included the link for the closest match I could find in my 2 second online search this morning :)

Target dress, J.Crew necklace, and some zebra chairs

Random lengthy title, huh.
Okay, so I've finally gotten my phone to connect to my computer so I could share a few more things with you this morning.
First, remember when I mentioned I never buy clothes or shoes at Target.  I just don't like the fit or quality.  Well, color me wrong, because that same afternoon I bought this neon pink and cream cotton dress.  And I love it.  I seriously have worn it three or four times since.  It's comfortable and easy and goes in the washing machine.  Done and done.  They don't sell it online, sadly, but this black and white striped skater dress was the closest I could find.  Go to your store today and buy it.
  For reals.
So I finally got two of my dining chairs painted.  I went with a high gloss white lacquer paint and brown and white zebra fabric for the chair cushions.  I'm in LOVE with them.
What do you think?  Should I have gone bolder?  I'm picturing a really bold and bright colored pillow.  Any suggestions for fabric?
I feel so bad about my earlier post because it seems the sellers of this gorgeous (and most likely stolen, oh crap) j.crew bubble necklace have been removed from ebay.  Yup, apparentely they do that when you're the chinese mafia pilfering stolen goods for the slave trade.
I seriously feel horrible that I contributed.  But not quite horrible enough not to wear it.
Please tell me I'm not the only one.

J.Crew bubble necklace

Hello lovelies.
How are we?  Loving this short week, it's already Wednesday.
Awesome, except I kept forgetting yesterday was Tuesday and missed a doctors appointment.  whoops.
Anyway, I have two fun things for you this morning.
1.  I'm guest posting today at my girl Eileen's blog today sharing some of my favorites including the image below.  If you don't already read A Creative Day, you should.
2.  My J.Crew bauble necklace came in the mail yesterday and I'm obsessed.  I'm also proud to say it's my first ebay score.
In fact, I paid just $21.00 including shipping.
Balls, you say.
Well go get yourself one here.

caprese pasta and kilim runners

So I made a few little changes to my living room.  Bumped the chairs up more into the room and placed a desk against the stairwell wall where the chairs used to be.
I also tossed two new ethnic kilim looking runners I scored at TJMaxx last week over the chairs.
I'm in love.
More pictures to come.

So I also made the yummmiest and easiest dinner last night.
Basically I cut a box of cherry tomatoes into a bowl and added diced fresh basil, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar glaze.  I let it sit all afternoon on the counter just marinating in goodness.
Serve over angel hair pasta for a really light and tasty summer dinner.
I'll admit, it would have been even better with fresh grated parmesan or some warm mozzarella cheese on top.  Or a nice thick slice of crusty baguette.  But, I just had a baby and it's swimsuit season.  So I'm shaving off calories where I can.

Red, White, and Blue Pillows

Happy Memorial Day Friends!
Hope everyone is enjoying this awesome three day weekend!
Matthew has been out of town golfing all weekend so I'be been playing single mom.
Wow, it's hard work.
So maybe it's my new designer friend Lindsay moving to town, or maybe it's a late Spring Cleaning bug but I've got organizing, cleaning, and decorating on my brain.
First up is pillows for my living room.
Today I thought I'd go patriotic with my selections.  I'm at such a loss for where to start with my own house.  It's like the cheapest and easiest way to change a room yet I have MAJOR commitment issues.  MAJOR.
Which ones do you like?
Three, Five, and Six are my faves for sure.

Memorial Day weekend outfit

It's the freakin' weekend baby, I'm about to have me some fun!
{name that song in under 3 seconds and I'll know we're true friends}
Anyway, I'm pretty excited for more rain, again, here today.
whomp whomp.
But I will not let that get me down.
I'm most excited about my afternoon playdate with Lindsay from Sadie & Stella, who's pretending to be healthy today but don't let her yummy fruit recipes fool you.
There will be lots of cheese and grease and bravo gossip over cocktails.
Be jealous, it's ok.  I would be if I were you.
In a dream world I'd wear something like this.
Because those heals look perfect for pushing a double stroller and that white blouse/necklace combo is just begging to be left alone by Wells & Tagg.
What are you fun plans for thins weekend?

living rooms

Hey friends.
I don't have much for y'all today.  All my babes actually slept all night last night and didn't start making peeps until after 7am.  This is AMAZING!
Of course, I've also got a billion things to do this morning, including dropping Wells off at my mom's house while Tagg goes to therapy, so I could have used the extra early wake-up call.
So I leave you with some living rooms that I am seriously crushing on.
I'm really loving the more masculine feel to them.
Well, masculine compared to what I'm usually drawn too.
What do you think?

random favorites

Just a few things I can't get out of my head today

No matter how hard I try to get around using pink in my house, something like this pops up and it's all over.

It looks so comfy and the stripes look small enough to help hit in all the right places.

This AMAZING happiness quote
I am a FIRM believer in this mantra.  Every day and every situation (well, almost) can be changed tremendously just by your attitude.  This is something that comes naturally to me but a reminder is sometimes really helpful.

Wells is currently obsessed with kabobs and dip.  She'll eat anything right now as long as she can do it herself.  Ladies, you know the drill.  Her other favorite is the dannon drinkable yogurts.  With a straw.  She thinks it's a treat and it doesn't make a mess.  Any other suggestions?

Lillet white wine
Served crazy cold over ice with fresh lemon and lime slices.
It also comes in red which I highly recommend as well.
It's the drink that was on the side of the picture of my southwest salad here.
My brother introduced it to us a few weeks ago and it is so refreshing.  He bought it locally at Strawberry Street Wine & Cheese, an awesome little shop just down the street from my house.
I think the possibilities for combinations with this one are endless.

What are some of your favorite things right now?

flip flops

Okay, so y'all know I'm on the hunt for some new sandals to replace my thoras and I thought y'all might like to see what I'm finding.  Most of what's out there is pretty cheap too which is a pleasant discovery.
In fact, if you're just looking for price, I'd suggest hitting up your local staples like forever21 or h&m or charlotte russe.  I'm trying to find something a bit more feet friendly so I know I'm going to have to pay more.
Anyway, here are my initial colorful finds!
What do you think?

sandal suggestions & outfit work to play

I've been pretty smitten with this j.crew striped blouse since I first spotted it and I knew y'all would be too.
It looks like a fab piece to wear to work or on the weekends.
What do you think?
And speaking of, how was your weekend?
Mine was great but went by WAY TOO FAST!
I did have a blowout on my thora sandals while at the mall on Saturday and quickly walked down to Saks to possibly buy another pair of Tory Burch sandals.  The sales girl was awful.  Chick was straight rude.  I explained the situation and that I was pretty annoyed that a flip flop that cost over $100 would break and I wasn't convinced I wanted another of the exact pair and maybe needed a different style.  She looked at the bottom of the shoe in my hand and snotted out, well they do look pretty worn.  You've clearly had these at least a year.
Sure have.
And I've had rainbows last for over 10 years
Jack Rogers that I've been rocking for 5+
Oh, and a pair of black generics from KMart that I can't remember when bought.
Not one of them caused me to go barefoot at the mall.
I wasn't trying to get a free pair.  In fact, I was about to drop some silly cash on a new pair of shoes.
Needless to say her attitude pissed me off and I hobbled back to my car with one shoe on and one shoe off.
So now I'm in the predicament of what to buy next.
I liked my thoras.
I like that at the end of the day they're flip flops but they could be dressed up when needed.
But they certainly didn't have "excessive wear".  I can assure you I'm lazier than that.
So what do I buy instead?

Boo-Boo Booze {mango cocktail}

So I think one of the best qualities in a woman is ingenuity.
You know, being resourceful.
Motherhood has really helped me in this area.
Take this afternoon, for example, when the sun was shining and I was in desperate need of a boat drink.
Only problem, our ice machine is broken.
Sad, right.
So being the industrious type, I quickly inserted the giant plastic ice-cube that goes with our boo-boo friend from the freezer and into my drink.
Mamma's happy.

Cheers to the weekend and the boo-boo doggy saving the day!

Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad

So y'all know I've stepped up my wifely a-game lately and added daily swiffering and dinner cooking into  my repertoire.
This is an old favorite of mine from back when I first got married and tried out cooking once or twice.
It's so easy and so delicious.
I promise you'll be so glad you made it.

{grilled with pepper or any seasoning and drizzled with fresh lime juice}
{black beans and corn combined and cooked in a hot skillet to brown them}
{fix the ranch packet according to directions and then dilute with milk or water to make a more salad dressing consistency}
{squeeze on top}

designer collaborations

It's gonna be good.
Like real good.
First,Trina Turk for Banana Republic.
I'll probably lose some readers for saying this, but I'm not always the biggest fan of the Target collaborations.  I feel like they typically just water down a great brand instead of selecting a few piece to offer at a price most of us can afford.  So as much as I get excited for the hype, I never end up with anything in my cart at check-out.
I have a feeling that will not be the case with BR & TT.
I've always been a big fan of the quality of both brands.

And now Quadrille for Jack Rogers.
Two amazing designs on one foot.  This really is bananas.
I don't consider myself super preppy but I am addicted to Jack Rogers.
I pretty much live in them when the weather hits above 65 degrees.
For years they were the only flip flop that could pass for both a pool shoe and work/wedding appropriate.  That making packing for summer trips a breeze.
Now I admit I cheat on Jack all the time with Tory, but, they remain a classic staple and I think every girl should own a pair.  Seriously.  Go buy one.

It's got this southern girl swooooooning fo sho!
Who's as excited as I am about this?

lamp shades

Okay, so here's al little corner of our dining room that I've been trying to overhaul lately.
Sorry for the crappy phone picture (not sure when I'll get around to taking a real picture)
Let's disregard the table skirt that very badly needs to be ironed, as well as the fact that it still needs some trim from when it lived in our entryway and we chatted about it here.
I'm waiting on lampshade decision to then tackle the trim.
Okay, so here's where I need your help
Which lampshade do you like better?
#1. Black and White Graphic Floral
#2. White (with black striped trim)
#3. Black (with white striped trim)
#4.  Something entirely different???  Do tell please!

reupholstering & painting chairs

Well I don't have much for you today because this rain is killing my current project.
I need it to stay dry for a few days in a row.
I'm in the middle of painting the dining chairs I talked about here because we're using two of them as our desk chairs.
I decided to do something entirely different (go figure) from that post and just paint the chairs white.
I also decided to go with a brown and white zebra fabric that I already owned similar to this one below.  That way I can add in a fun punch of color with a pillow rather than the chair itself.  And if I decide to go for a bold color, the white will act as primer against all that dark wood.
what do you think?
Anyone else working on anything right now?

Also in case you missed my guest post yesterday on Jessica's blog, I thought I'd share my dream kitchen on here as well. And also so I can stare at it often when I'm cooking in my real kitchen!

May 14, 2012

my little family

I'm so thankful for my sweet family.
Tagg was so excited about his first Mother's Day that he woke up at 2:45am and 6:15am just to tell me about it.
Wells took the opposite approach and slept in until 7:40am and then decided to skip her nap just so she could celebrate with me all day.
And we somehow managed to get all four of us showered, dressed and out the door on time for brunch with my parents, brother, grandmother, and aunt.
I am so blessed!
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did.
Also, look at the bottom of this post to see where I announced the winner of the Skipjack Polo!

I'm also guesting on Jessica's awesome little blog this morning talking about dream kitchens.
She's renovating her kitchen and it has me truly drooling.
I just adore her style and all the vignettes she shares of her home.
I'm sharing my dream kitchen plans because my current kitchen is in need of a major overhaul!
You can find it here.

And we have a winner for the Southern Tide skipjack polo!

Congratulations Tenth Avenue South!
