Living Room Shelf Styling

I try to mention all the time how I awesome I think y'all are.  This whole blog community is full of creative and talented people and seems to be the one small corner of the world where we give encouragement and advice freely without judgement and without mean-spirited competition.

All of your comments and advice were thoughtful and helpful.
I am so excited to add in more elements of black and gold and leopard.
And I completely agree about a darker bolder color on back of the shelves.

So I shouldn't say I was all the surprised when a lovely reader sent me a few sweet emails yesterday regarding project living room zhush.  She played around with my bookshelves and sent me a virtual make-over that is spot on with where I'm headed.  I preach all the time about the benefits of a visual plan and a fresh perspective.  And this sweet girl just laid one at my doorstep.  Well, in-box, anyway.
I can't wait to implement this plan.  I think it's just what the rooms needs.
She has a pretty kick-ass blog called Orange Cashmere so go check it out if you haven't yet.

And now I leave you with a few of my favorite words of wisdom from pinterest this week.

I hope everyone has a fantastic holiday weekend!

Snakeskin Blouses and Blazers

So I have a new favorite purchase.  This animal print blouse from Banana Republic.
I bought it last week and I can't wait to have somewhere to wear it!
It reminds me of the J.Crew snakeskin blouse I've been lusting over all month.  And at $79 it's much more doable than the J.Crew version.  I just can't spend over $100 on a shirt anymore.  Especially one that I might wear around my kids.
What do you think?  Similar enough?

And of course I am completely smitten with blazers this fall.  It's such a classic staple I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy one.  My top pick right now is this J.Crew crepe shawl blazer in vintage berry.  But I'm not sure for that price.  I might just need to stick with navy with that kind of investment.  Then again Pink really is a staple.  And I've never regretted my Pink Hunter Rain Boots.  I always choose them over my black pair because they're just so much more fun.
Hmmmm....

Living Rooms

So here's a shot of my living room now.
And below that are some of my current favorite living rooms from Pinterest.

I don't think I've really shown it before since we built the bookcases so I figured before I make any more changes, I better have a starting off point for y'all for reference.
It's not bad.  Great, really.  But it needs some work.
So, how do I get from Point A to Point Awesome?

It's obvious I need something alive, like a plant.  Dang, I wonder if faux will help.
I need something old.  More old pieces.  Preferable wood.  Preferably awesome antiques.
I need some sort of statue head.  Like a Greek god or something equally cool.  Maybe American Patriotic like Thomas Jefferson?
I need something plush to lay over my seagrass rug.
I need more black.
I need more gold.
I need more color.
I need less color.
I need more things.
I need less things.
I NEED A STYLIST TO COME ZHUSH IT UP AND A HOUSEKEEPER TO KEEP IT CLEAN!

Thoughts?

DIY Snakeskin from Recently

Did y'all see Emily's big Faux snakeskin table DIY reveal she shared yesterday?  Well, I'm still bananas over it and had to share it just in case you missed it.  Trust me, this girl has got an amazing style and an adorable little family so if you're not already stalking her blog Recently, you should.
Pretty much everything this girl does is golden in my book.

What is your next DIY project?

Tomato Pie

Farmer's Market struck again.  This time in the form of basil and tomatoes.  And what would any southern girl do with that combo?  Make some Tomato Pie, of course.  Or have her husband make it, in my case.
The recipe is so freaking easy and home grown in Pawleys Island, just like my husband.

I prefer it served just like Roz's, with a side of salad.  I've been substituting my beloved spring mix for spinach.  Wells' iron is a bit low and I want her to see me making healthy choices.  There's nothing like the watchful eye of a hungry toddler to kick your own health into high gear.
I try to eat at least one salad with her a day.  I just throw in whatever we have on hand.  This salad was baby spinach, red onion, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, green apples and brianna's blush wine vinaigrette.  My favorite dressing by the way.

Tomato Pie Recipe
Pre-made pie crust
A block of sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
A handful of tomatoes, diced and dried with a paper towel
A big handful of fresh basil leaves
A big dollop of Duke's Mayo
A small yellow onion cut into thin slivers

Toss is all in a bowl and mix is up good and add a dash of salt and pepper to taste then top with a thin layer of shredded cheddar
Scoop all that goodness into the pie crust and cook on 350' for about 30 minutes or until the cheese starts to brown.

Macaroni & Champagne

Do you ever have days where you are bursting at the seems with thankfulness?
I've been feeling like this a lot lately.  And I'm grateful.  For both the reality and the feeling.
I can't stop counting my blessings and being thankful that God has put so many supportive and loving people in my life.  I'm surrounded by positive people and that energy is catching.  And I'm most thankful for my husband whom I get to share this incredible journey with.  I love you.
And I love you my dear friends and family who have made this place possible.  And I love you my lovely readers for sharing in my life.  Even the ones that don't comment.

And I promise to follow this post with something super witty and smart ass that makes you spit out your coffee in exchange for indulging me in this {hormonal} love rant/

The Look For Less: animal print shoes

So I have my friend Chassity to thank for tipping me off to these pony print flats.  Of course once I followed the link to Urban Outfitters and saw the price I decided I needed to buy the leopard print too.  Especially since I'd just been on the Madewell site and found the same two shoes for much more.  Now some of y'all might not consider $135 for a pair of shoes a crazy splurge but for me it meant I had to pause and really think about it.  And even then, I could only justify one.  And clearly these are both a necessity.  So when I saw the look-alikes for $42 a pop I threw them both in my cart and clicked check-out before I could change my mind.  And when I got my little email this morning letting me know they shipped I was super pumped.  No buyers remorse here.

Perfect Morning

Maybe it's the Thursday woes, but this week is dragging.  We've been super busy in a good way but it's got me daydreaming about a perfect morning all to myself.
No husband.  No babies.  Just me.

Ha!  A girl can dream right!
I can't even imagine what it would be like to sit in bed all morning in my pajamas drinking coffee reading blogs and playing on my ipad.  Amazing.  Can I put that on my Christmas list?
What's your perfect morning like?

Top Five Fall Essentials

I have both J.Crew and my girl Natalie for helping me figure out my new fall go-to look.  I've gathered my top five essentials for fall and can't wait for the weather to drop down a few notches so I can start wearing it!  What's on your go-to list?

Four Cheese Chicken Ravioli with Gorgonzola

So I promised y'all a recipe on Saturday and I'm here to deliver.  And it's only Tuesday.  Impressive right?  Well, you'll be more impressed when you read how easy this insanely yummy ravioli recipe is to make.  Seriously, a 10 minute dinner.
Ladies, put this one your supper club rotation.  You'll be thanking me later.
Now I have to be honest, this recipe is Sandra Lee style, semi-homemade.  But that's the best kind really.  So the four-cheese chicken ravioli is ready-made (I found mine at Sams Club but it's available at any grocery store, usually bertolli brand) but the sauce is all on you my dears.  And it only takes the five minutes while the ravioli is boiling to cook.  This recipe is intended for two but can easily be adjusted/doubled for more,  Also, it's all just a bit of this and a bit of that so don't worry about measuring.  I promise.  Also, don't worry if your sauce looks a bit runny in the pan, it will thicken up a ton once it hits the ravioli.

Let's have a look-see.

Marsh Walk, Summer Sandals, and some awesome red wine

So I realized this was the one and only picture taken on our whole trip down to South Carolina a few weeks ago and I'd never shared it.  I can't even believe how big my sweet babies are getting.

Me and my loves on the Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk
So the awesome people at Fibi & Clo read all about my sandal dilemma and earlier this summer they sent me an awesome pair of t-straped jeweled sandals to try out.  I picked the postiano's because I knew they'd be dressy enough to wear out but still casual enough to rock during the day.
They said they were amazing and I'd love them and they were right.
I've been obsessed with them all summer and I can promise you they have held up perfectly on dates, girls' nights and playgrounds alike.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I love them.
They're also crazy affordable at $45.00 a pair.
Check out more of my favorite pairs

And certainly last but not least, how awesome is this red wine I found at our awesome little local market.  Yes, you read it correctly.  It's Bitch Wine.  It's cheap and it's good and it's name is worth it's weight at bunco.  Which coincidentally, I no longer do since moving to Richmond.  But I do bitch and I do wine.

Finding mislabled spam mail

I just sent a request to re-set my password for a site a rarely use and had to go looking around all my email addresses for the reply email.
Lawd-a-mercy.
The things I found.
Let's take a step back.
I started my blogger account with my personal email address and then quickly added and merged a blog email address.  I always stay logged in to my personal account because it's connected to blogger and I regularly check them both throughout the day.  I check the spam mail about once a week or so to make sure nothing important was mislabeled.
What I didn't know was that anything filtered as spam to my blog email wasn't coming through to the spam folder I check.
Which means, anything y'all have been sending me that I haven't responded to in like, two or three years, was probably sitting in that pawleysislandposh spam folder never to be found.
The folder only showed things as recently as a few weeks ago and though most of it was crapmail I found two real deal emails written by two real deal readers.  Who probably think I'm a shit for never responding to them.  So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you have ever sent me an email and never got a response take this as my public apology.  And PLEASE if it's still relevant or pertinent or just effing hilarious resend it to me.
Pretty please.

Champagne

Well, despite my post title, I have absolutely no plans this weekend.  I thought maybe y'all might have more fascinating lives than I do and this advice would suit that.

We're getting ready to head out the door for some family time at the farmer's market.  Matthew's going to help me navigate the produce stands so I can bring y'all some fab yummies this week.  And just so you know, one of the recipes I experimented with last night takes literally 10 minutes from fridge to table.  And it's gourmet and awesome.  I kid you not.  I can't wait to share!

Have a fab Saturday loves!

Animal Prints on Etsy

Some of y'all may recognize this print from the mood board I did for Natalie at Designer Bags and Dirty Diapers.  I wanted her to use it in Sterling's big boy room.  I still do.  But, after seeing it once more on her blog yesterday I decided I really wanted to use it in Tagg's nursery too!  So I ordered it.  I can't wait for it to come in.  I plan on framing it in a very old school traditional gilded frame.  I'm pretty much obsessed with everything in this etsy shop.  How perfect would these be in a bathroom?  And that deer.  Yeah, going to need to figure out how to work that baby in.  Perhaps part of a gallery wall?
They're just the right amount of whimsy mixed with some old school stuffy.
My favorite combo as of late.
It's coming all the way from Brisbane, Australia so it's going to take a few weeks to arrive but even with shipping it was only $32 for the 11x14 print.  I can't wait to get it up in his nursery!
Which one do you like?  They have several more options in their shop and some have a very obvious striking resemblance to real people.  Winston Churchill, Donal Trump, Sherlock Holmes.  I can't quite figure out who the elephant is modeled after.  Any ideas?
