What's the one thing all of these chest of drawers have in common?
That's right, theyr'e all a rast hack. Clever ones, aren't ya'll. Just kidding, I know we've all seen it a billion times. I've been hanging on the edge of jumping on board for almost a year and a half now. But the one thing that's been holding me back is the small size. It's just too short. So tell me friends, is it true? Is he too short? Do I pass, yet again? Or do you have one and love it?
Let's dish!
I'm heading to ikea in about an hour with my mom and I know this sweet thing will tempt me once again. It's anyone's guess if I bring one or two home!
ikea rast

I keep thinking I want one too. Especially love the campaign looking ones used for the media storage!
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of a hack is you can make it taller! I say buy 2 and go for it.

ReplyDeleteSo I bought two of these a year ago and was all excited about hacking them into something cool. As soon as we put them together I was shocked at just how crappy they really are. They are tiny, the pieces that hold the drawers in place are plastic and they feel very wobbly to me. I know they are IKEA and I wasn't expecting too much - but honestly I was shocked so many people hack them and use them. Because we had already put them together and I couldn't return I painted them and added new hardware and we are using them as nightstands, but I'm literally counting down the monents until I can replace them for something better! Maybe others feel differently, but I totally think you could do better repainting/hacking a vintage piece of furniture that is better quality.
ReplyDeleteSending this post to my sis-in-law who's considering getting this dresser, thanks!! ;)
ReplyDeleteDo it my dear!
ReplyDeleteToo funny- I was just thinking about how I really need to do a rast hack too- just so many possibilities! I'd love to see what you come up with so my vote is definitely yes!!!
ReplyDeletedo it!!
ReplyDeleteI was a definite YES until I read Marisa's post. Now Im thinking go thrifting and find a solid wood, better quality piece!
ReplyDeletegood luck.

It depends on where you want to put it, but I definitely think it's too short for a bedside table or end table. It would be great in a kids room though. Have fun at Ikea, so envious!
ReplyDeleteloving your blog!
ReplyDeleteThe picture you have with the white circle overlays on it (orange wallpaper) actually looks like the 3 drawer malm. They are bigger and feel pretty sturdy to me. Maybe go that route instead if its size you're worried about. They also have a new mirrored version of it which is fun! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI love all of these ikea hacks! amazing. all i've done is switch out the knobs on my ikea dresser.... womp womp.

I'll fund the project if you want to hack a set for my master bedroom side tables!!! I move first weekend of March. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI have two in my master bedroom and I love them. Will definitely have more when I get more space.

Oh, how I wish Nashville had an Ikea. Maybe, one day!

ReplyDeleteMy sister did a Rast hack and it's looks awesome but she said they're really small and barely hold anything. They use them as bedside tables so it doesn't bother her too much but they were much smaller than she expected
ReplyDeleteI would look At the Malm? While there. It is bigger!
ReplyDeleteThe possibilities are endless. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing all of these! I've been considering one for years too...it's hard to deny that price tag! Especially when you need 2!
ReplyDeletePass. I really wanted a set too but after seeing them in real life they are just too short. I thought about it for my daughter's room but they are not sturdy and I don't think safe unless I attached it to the wall.
ReplyDeleteSuch a versatile piece! I eye it up every time I go to IKEA, haha! I think I need to take the plunge ( I DO need new side tables).
