Day Dreaming: Beachside Reading in Stripes

May 24, 2013

________________________________________________________________
So we're still having a great time down in Pawleys.  Sadly, I haven't gotten any lazy beach reading in yet.  I guess that how it goes with two little ones.  It may not be getting read on the beach, but I'm almost finished re-reading The Great Gatsby.  So far so good.  I understand it so much better than I did in ninth grade.  Have you read it yet?  Seen the movie?  I can't wait!  What's your favorite beach read?  Magazines or books?  E-reading or old fashioned paper? Any suggestions for good reads?

  5. I was very happy when my kids were old enough for me to relax and read on the beach! I usually take both books (real books, not e-books) and magazines on a beach trip, but I read the magazines inside because the wind drives me crazy flipping the pages as I try to read. I want to re-read Gatsby before I see the movie. I am looking forward to greater understanding too! I enjoyed reading Rules of Civility - very Gatsby-ish!

  8. I understand the book way better now than I did way back when. It's actually GOOD now, whereas in high school it was just a chore to have to read it. Now, it's one of my favorite books. Movie is quite disappointing, in my opinion. I've heard mixed reviews, so I would encourage you to go see it. The music is amazing....!

  9. I need to re-read The Great Gatsby- it's been since high school and I know I'll probably understand it more like you said. I love it back then so I hope I still love it when I read it again
