Meal Planning Made Simple Week 13

___________________________________________________________________________

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Mine was full of packing and entertaining babies at my parents house.  Oh, and more packing.  I'm starting to feel overwhelmed.  My mom and I are going to spend the better half of May in Pawleys Island and I'm not sure if we'll be in the new house by then.  So packing is getting a little bit tricky because I need to make sure everything we'll need for the beach is accessible and not boxed up.  I feel like I want to just get rid of everything we own and start over but I know that's neither feasible or responsible.  I'm packing thing by room rather than like item which is proving helpful.  Anyone have any tips they'd like to share?

  1. Nothing easy about moving for sure. I always want to throw stuff away when we move and secretly I do trash alot of stuff. It is a good way to weed out! Meal plan looks fab and can't wait to see you soon! xo

  6. I don't have any packing tips...I've only ever lived in a few different homes in Chas and Atl so I'm a newbie! BUT, I can say that I'm in the same boat bc we are moving into an apt in 2.5 weeks and taking very minimal with us, the movers are packing up the rest and putting it into a storage facility-but I'm so glad we are renting our own facility bc that means I can access it when I need to and am putting things I will need near the doors and the rest I am having them put in there room and room and I'm putting signs on the walls. Also already made a 100 GW trips! And we are like you, heading to my parents in Amelia for 5 weeks this summer, SO that is another packing to do! I love your home, I can't wait to see it's transformation :-) I'm living vicariosuly through you until we find a new home (ugh apt living ugh!).

  8. OOO that pretzel crusted chicken! And I totally feel you on the trashing everything bit. When we moved into our new house, we got rid of EVERYTHING! It was quite liberating. It was nice to start over...

  9. I love your meal planning, I usually try to do the same thing on sunday. In fact, I have a recipe from your archives saved that we made last night. The southwest stirfry that you posted ages ago is something we go back to time and again. The black bean mash is always a hit!

  10. YUM! The pizza looks amazing!

Packing is the worst! My two best tips are to number every box and make sure you write down how many boxes you have. That way, if one goes missing in the move, you know. (If you're feeling really ambitious, keep a list of what's in each box. Box #3, books, Box#4 - plates & bowls, etc.) Also, label the boxes well if you'll be needing to access them before they're unpacked. If you write "kitchen" instead of "bowls and cups" you'll end up digging in multiple boxes looking for what you need. I usually just do this for the boxes I know I'll be looking for or want to unpack first.

    Good luck!

  11. The pretzel crusted chicken is great, and if you haven't bought your pretzels yet, look for the mustard and onion pretzel bites (I think they are by Hanover - smaller gold package). We used those and the taste was incredible. I wish my sauce was a little thicker but it was still a winner.

Good luck packing ... and just remember my mantra -- when you move, something will always get lost, something will always get broken, and something will always get found.

  13. Amazing! So helpful. My tip is to make a big batch of brown rice or quinoa and then eat it in different ways all week. Check out my blog for some healthy recipes :)

  14. Julia, I was right there with you 2 years ago, not fun! We had to move out of the model home we were rented ( it sold) move to eastern shore with my parents ;p while house was being built. Ryan scored that summer because his box of toys got packed away, toy shopping bonanza. I spent the summer buying stuff for the new house & had to get a small moving truck to come home, my bad!

  15. Hi Julia,
I have been reading and inspired by your blog for a looong time and I am so happy for you and your family. The new house looks great. Can’t wait to read and follow along on the journey! You are very lucky to be spending time in Pawley’s Island this May! We visited South Carolina for the very first time this past summer (we are from the Chicagoland area)! My son was playing baseball in Myrtle Beach but we were lucky enough to spend some time (not enough) in Pawley’s Island. I loved it. In fact we want to go back this summer and maybe see some more of South Carolina. Any suggestions? By the way I have just started my very own blog and would love it if you could stop by sometime at piersandchandeliers@blogspot.com .
    Best wishes,
    Erin

  19. Moving - my least favorite thing in the entire world. Good idea to pack by room, that should sve you a lot of headaches when you unpack. I'd just suggest labeling the boxes REALLY well. The movers that packed us did shuuuuch a crappy job. A box marked pillows ended up also having electronics and Izzy's favorite princess dress up clothes mixed in. I also have two rooms filled with boxes simply labeled "basement storage" that I don't have the energy to deal with :/
