Currently Obsessed: Wine Drinking Corner

June 26, 2013

__________________________________________________________________
Well the heat of summer has officially set in here in Richmond.  I'm hot.  The kids are hot.  The pool is hot.  It's not nearly as hot and humid up here as it is down in Pawleys, but then again, we also don't have the ocean breeze.  All this heat has me cranky by late afternoon.  I think I'm starting to succumb to the infamous witching hour myself.  As soon as Matthew walks in the door I crave a cool quiet place to go sip white wine.  A place too clean for kids to roam.  A perfect little nook for playing on my ipad or reading some glossies.

I'm actually pretty obsessed with this whole look and want to incorporate these elements into our family room.  I'm just still figuring out how that will work with small children.  Do you do glass and neutrals in your home?  Do you have pets or kids?  How does that work?  I'm pretty set on slip covering my sofa and chair like the one above but I'm terrified at the dirt.  My friend just picked up two glass lamps for her family room and her 17 month old promptly broke one.  Am I just asking for trouble?

  6. Just read an article in Lonny about a mom who was debating that same conundrum. Her advice: Buy multiple slipcovers- to rotate along with any mood/season- and one for when you are having planning on having people over. Also, outdoor fabrics are so nice these days and much more durable.

  7. I am also considering slipcovering and I have a 3 year old and 1 year old. My go-to spot cleaner is Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover (at pet stores). Do you think it would work to slipcover over leather with a rug pad underneath to keep it in place? Also, any recommendations on where to buy a good slipcover?

  10. I say go with what you like. They won't be this little for ever and they've got to learn eventually. At least, that's what I keep telling myself. :)

  11. First, love the idea of a kids-free wine-drinking corner. Stroke of genius! Second, I just child-proofed everything from my curious little daredevil. I highly recommend museum putty for the glass lamps -the kids won't be able to get those suckers to budge, I promise.

  12. Light colors and pets/kids are not a problem if you slip or upholster with an outdoor fabric such as Sunbrella. Noticed yesterday. All outdoor fabric is half price this week on the JoAnne fabric site and in local stores. No, I am NOT sponsored by anyone.

  13. okay its debatable. I'm big on buying what you like but
I have three kids and a dog and my house has been trashed. Mirrored side table? Ha. laughable. it made it about three months than it got a sippy cup slam down and it was done. RIP? I try to keep all breakables about of the rooms where the kids spend the most time. ITs a delicate balance but it makes it challenging!

  14. Hi sweetie, just a plug here for white sofas. I have always had them my whole life and they can be cleaned. I spilled red wine on one and it came totally out with oxy clean. Glass tables as you probably know are never clean with kids and are a constant reminder of their sticky, smudgy fingers and toes. But you could do this look with a wooden table top. What kind of lamp won't break? How about a wall sconce instead? Love all your plans!
