Living Room Change Up | Styling My Leather Sofa

August 18, 2015

Y'all know that a few weeks ago we turned our dining room back into a dining room.  The navy room, for those of you besides my husband who get confused.  That created yet another round of furniture shuffle.  So currently the leather sofa that came from my in-laws is the main attraction in the living room.  I love the casual feel it creates in this room and paired with lots of cream and blues it also maintains the coastal vibe we've got going on everywhere else.

I know a lot of people with older homes struggle with the two living rooms debacle and I'm still figuring ours out too.  But it's nice to have keep both rooms pretty relaxed instead of one formal living room and one informal family room.  For us, every room is a family room right now.

We recently set up the Lego table in the back of this room right in front of the opening to the family room.  That's working really well so far to keep legos off the playroom floor.  Not because I'm a neat freak but mostly because there is no floor left after the other toys come out.  Yikes.

You can see here where the family room connects!  That teepee is the best and is made from indoor/outdoor fabric!  I think I love it as much as the kids do!

The Lilly Sale is still going strong ladies!  Did anyone score big yesterday?  I was impressed with the new set up and got in within 45 minutes.  Lots of good stuff left and no wait this morning!

  1. I love your style Julia! Very beautiful. I did score big yesterday. I was worried about the virtual line but loved it so much more. The site never crashed for me and it didn't take that long to get in. I was worried at first when I saw how many people were in front of me but I was able to get everything I wanted.

  2. We have done the same with the two living room situation in our house, nothing is formal and cozy and casual. I love the pillows you picked for your couch!

  3. We've got two living rooms too! I've got an Indian day bed type couch that I just can't quit, and it's tough to "un-formalize" it. Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. Beautiful! I agree- formal rooms are not practical with families. I know you've posted this before, but what is the name/color of your sisal rug in the photos above. I also buy most of my rugs on rugsusa but I can never find one that has the lighter sisal look like yours do. This will be for my basement FR and I have the white Ikea couch. THANK YOU!

  5. Do the sisal rugs hold up well with kids spills? I was thinking about one for under our kitchen table but worry it will be hard to clean. Love the leather couch with the blue and white!

    1. Hmmm, they've done fine in other rooms but I'd be concerned under a kitchen table. Things like yogurt or pasta sauce and ketchup could be bad news...

  7. That leather sofa really makes your living room look very cozy especially with those pillows. I did notice that you like to let sunlight in, which is a natural bleaching agent to leather. If you have it cleaned regularly and apply a leather protector with UV protection, however, you can better preserve that beautiful piece of furniture.
