Carters Mountain

September 28, 2016

I went apple picking yesterday on Carters Mountain in Charlottesville with Wells' class.  The rain held off thankfully and we ended up with the most perfect overcast day!  It's such a gorgeous spot with lots of history!  You can see Monticello from the top of the mountain.  I imagine this place is crazy on the weekends but it was really pleasant on a weekday morning.  Not really crowded at all.  I want to go back again soon!

Anyone have any good apple pie recipes they want to share?  I now have two big bags full that I need to do something with in the next few days!

I absolutely love the mountains of Virginia in the fall.  So gorgeous!

  2. No apple pie recipes, but I love making applesauce...just simmer a big covered pot of sliced apples for several hours with just a little water in the bottom, and add seasoning to taste (cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar if the apples are tart). I like to cook mine until the apples are soft, but there are still some good chunks of apple in the mix. It's a fall ritual in my house...and it makes your house smell so good!

Good thing you got to go on a weekday. We went on a weekend a few years ago, and by the time we left the line of cars to get to the top of the moutain was backed all the way to the interstate!
