Front Door Colors

July 11, 2013

And a quick refresher on the current state of things.
I know I know, I'm still talking about my front door.  I just can't leave it alone.  You can join the discussion here if you're new.  My favorite exterior color scheme would be a white house with black shutters and a colorful wood door.  But our house paint is in really good shape so I'm not sure re-painting is in the immediate plans.  Maybe I should do something different for now and do the coral door when we paint the house.  Or maybe not.  It's fun to think this small change will actually have the biggest impact on what the world thinks about us while driving by.

One of my favorite things about blogging is the friends you make.  My sweet friend Bethany from Powell Brower Home has some killer style.  She came by it naturally, as her Mom, Nancy, is a designer as well.  After seeing yesterday's post she sent me a mock-up of what my front porch would look like with a coral door.  You know, actually visualizing it instead of just talking about it.  Well I loved it.  And I love her for creating it for me.  It kicked me into gear and I spent some time yesterday creating alternates just to make sure we're picking the top choice.

I'm completely down with a color now that I see how predictable the black door is.  And they're all better than the current brown version.  Are there any colors you think I'm missing up here?  I know a bright pink door would look sick but my parent's have one and I don't want to be a total copy-cat.  Let's take a vote friends.

  1. Did you look at navy? I think that would compliment your house color.

  2. I have to admit, yesterday when you mentioned coral I wasn't convinced, but after seeing the mock up I am loving it!It really contrasts the green under tones of the house color well and makes a statement! Go for it!

  3. The coral looks great with the colors of your house, but I think I like the robin's egg blue even more!

  4. I just painted my front door navy and my back door a goldish yellow! I think the coral looks so good! It adds a pop of color and I don't think it clashes with the flag!

  5. We love you, too! I love that 6 panel glass door btw. Coral isn't copying your parent's pink door! Hey, like we always say, IT"S JUST PAINT! go girl! Thanks for the mention.

  6. I love the coral... it just pops

  7. My dream house is the same color scheme, but I'd gladly substitute dark navy shutters too.

With your house as is, I love the pop the coral and the green give your house. So either of those is my vote! I also love the mock up with the glass pane storm door (but in the other colors). The doors with the mail slots are awesome too!

  8. I like the coral but I think navy would look great too. It's more of a hint of color than an actual pop though!

  14. Love the six panel glass door! I am dying for one but they are so pricey! We have a bright green front door like the above. I am all about a colored door but I am sorta liking the black. Also, really like Linda's idea of Navy. Or what about a mossy green? There is a house on Westham Parkway with a really cool muted mossy green color that I think would match the other colors on your house nicely. I will try to shoot a pic next time I am by there.

  15. I like the coral and the bright green! And the reason the flag should be on the right ( or left as you look at the house) of your door is because that is what the technically correct and "legal" placement is. Federal flag law, same rules as where it says not to burn or touch the ground....I read this in an article somewhere! ( and the previous owners of my house put it on the wrong side, argh...)

  16. I actually think that any of them would work, but I'm drawn to the 4th and 5th ones actually. I also like the navy idea...for some reason I'm loving navy these days.

  17. Wow - I never would have said coral but seeing it on the house it looks fantastic! What a great idea to get a glimpse of it before you put paint on the door.

We just purchased a new home and it's brick with the saddest green shutters and door. I'm not sure what I'd call this green - something between olive and mint - but it's got to go. We're thinking black but boy does this make me want a colorful door!

  18. Coral or turquoise, they both look amazing and brightens up the house with a lowcountry twist! Don't hate me, but I'm not a fan of glossy black, I just think it tends to look cheap and show all the imperfections in a door.

  19. My favorites are coral, mint, green. In that order. Painting that front door needs to be on your weekend to-do list.

  27. The fourth is beautiful, but I'm biased because it's my favorite color. ;)
I personally think the last photo with the navy door looks really nice and cohesive with the stone walkway, as well as complimentary to the existing house colors.

  28. light light seafoam is my favorite! We have a coral door and I am wanting to change it to a dark stain since we have teal plantation shutters. Good luck!

  29. LOVE the coral!! i think it looks great. sooo much better than the black. i also really like the blue of the 3rd one.

  30. Love the coral! Hearing about it, I wasn't sure about it with the flag, but it looks great!

  31. Oh this is so fun. I love the coral and after reading all the comments, maybe navy would be cool! I do love the idea of doing a pop of color though. I did a sky blue door for awhile last summer and changed it to a greige for winter time...then my neighbors totally stole our blue door idea. hahaa

  33. The coral looks awesome, wasn't sure about that until I saw it. Second fav is the blue in the last picture.

  34. Ohh what great choices!! Originally I wanted to say the minty color, but I really love the coral on second glance. And honestly all the blues (except the super bright) are great too.

  36. That green is SO awesome! But I say go with your gut and bust out the coral paint :)

  37. I like the Coral, but perhaps Paprika would be a good fit with the color of the house. I also like the suggested eggplant.

  39. I love, love, love the Coral. Second choice is the aqua. Agree don't love the black with your exterior color. What a great idea to do a mock up it really helps envision it that much better! I still love your parents door, Major!

  40. I vote emerald green!

  43. CORAL, no question!! It really pops with the tan!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Coral or Aqua! Both are gorgeous!

  45. I love coral and mint (the chevron door in the mockup). Coral could work, but I don't love that particular shade. I say if you love coral go for it, but you might have to test a bunch of shades.

  46. dark blue color. it caught my eye as it matches the flag stones.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love either the coral or a dark navy or black! The front of the house is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  48. i'm gonna loving the emerald green....against the paving and exterior color...beautiful home by the way!

  49. All the designs looks nice to me. Suits on the home. I think the last one would suit the most as its matching the color of he house also.
